Flashcards force you to remember, not recognize

Reading notes gives you a false sense of knowing. Flashcards flip that: you see the question, and you have to produce the answer from memory. This active recall is the single most effective study technique backed by research.

This tool turns your notes into flashcards in seconds. Type or paste in Question::Answer pairs, and you get a deck you can study on screen, export to Anki or Quizlet, or print double-sided.

Download formats: what to use when

Seven export options cover every study workflow:

Format Best for Why it matters
Anki deck file Spaced repetition study Note type and separator preset. Imports in one click. Cloze cards auto-convert to Anki syntax.
Quizlet import Quizlet flashcards Tab-separated file. Questions in column one, answers in column two.
CSV Excel, Google Sheets Cards as a table. Sort, filter, edit in bulk.
TXT Plain text backup Human-readable format with Q: and A: labels.
PDF — study sheet Review from paper Front and back visible together. Good for quick review.
PDF — cut-out Physical flashcards Cards with borders. Cut them out and study handheld.
PDF — two-sided Flip cards Question on front, answer on back. Backs are mirrored so they align after printing.

How to print two-sided flashcards

The two-sided layout places questions on odd pages and answers on even pages, with backs mirrored. Here is how to print them correctly:

  1. Select "Print" and choose the two-sided layout. Your browser will show a print dialog.
  2. Enable double-sided printing (also called duplex). If your printer supports automatic duplex, select "Flip on long edge."
  3. Manual duplex? Print odd pages first, flip the stack on the long edge, then print even pages.
  4. Cut along the borders. The mirrored layout means question and answer line up after cutting.

Two card types, pick what fits

Basic Q&A

Front: question. Back: answer. Best for facts, definitions, dates, vocabulary.

Cloze

A sentence with a hidden word. Best for testing recall in context, language learning, fill-in-the-blank exercises.

Formatting guide

  • Question::Answer — the simplest format. One card per line.
  • Q: / A: format — "Q: What is 2+2? A: 4" works too.
  • Cloze with double braces — "The capital of France is {{Paris}}" creates a fill-in-the-blank.

How to use flashcards effectively

  • Say the answer out loud. Internal monologue is too easy to fake. Vocalizing forces commitment.
  • Shuffle your deck. If cards always come in the same order, you memorize the sequence, not the facts.
  • Sort into "know" and "struggle" piles. Review the struggle pile more often. That is the entire spaced repetition principle.
  • Keep cards short. One fact per card. Multi-sentence answers defeat the purpose.

Bottom line
Flashcards are the fastest way to move information from your notes into your memory. This tool handles the formatting — Anki, Quizlet, CSV, or print. You handle the studying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it really free?

Yes, completely free with no daily limit. Cards are generated in your browser.

How do I format my flashcards?

Use Question::Answer — one card per line. You can also use Q: and A: format. Separate cards with new lines.

What is a cloze card?

A cloze (fill-in-the-blank) card has a word or phrase hidden. Wrap the hidden text in double braces: The capital of France is {{Paris}}.

Can I print my flashcards?

Yes. Choose from three print layouts: study sheet, cut-out cards, or two-sided with mirrored backs for flipping.

Is my content private?

Completely. Nothing is uploaded. The tool works offline after the page loads.

How many cards can I create?

Up to 100 cards per batch. For more, split your content into multiple batches.

Can I export to Anki?

Can I export to Quizlet?

Yes. The Quizlet export produces a tab-separated file that imports directly. Questions in column one, answers in column two.

What formats are supported?

Question::Answer, Q:/A: format, and cloze with double braces. Each card on its own line.
