What is force

Force is a push or pull that can make something move or change its shape. A force is like a push or a pull. For example, when you push a swing at the playground, you are applying a force to the swing. This force makes the swing move. You can also use a force to change the shape of something. If you take a piece of clay, you can use your fingers to push and pull the clay to change its shape. Force can be measured in something called Newtons. A Newton is a unit of measurement for force. It takes about one Newton of force to hold an apple against the force of gravity. An analogy for force is a tug-of-war. In a tug-of-war, two teams pull on a rope in opposite directions. Each team is using a force to try to pull the rope their way. Fun fact: The force of gravity between two people on Earth is about the same as the force between two magnets that are 0.5 centimeters apart!
